Where The Mobile Growth Opportunities Lie (Qualcomm via Fortune)
If any company has a handle on where the big growth opportunities in mobile lie it's Qualcomm. The semiconductor's communications chips can be found in nearly every mobile device on the planet.

The picture above, showing which emerging markets are expected to grow the fastest, is taken from Qualcomm's November 15 Analysts Day presentation. Basically, where high-speed wireless broadband goes, smartphones and tablets will follow.

More Than 70% Of App Sessions Are Outside Of The U.S. (Flurry via BI Intelligence)
Mobile apps are no longer just for an American audience. According to Flurry, the U.S. share of Android and iOS app sessions shrank a remarkable 19 percentage points in the past year. U.S.-based sessions now account for less than one-third of the total. The next nine largest markets soaked up much of the usage, increasing their share 12 percentage points to 39% of app sessions.

Distribution Of App Sessions

While the U.S. is still the most profitable market for app makers, developers need to start turning their eyes toward the global market, where much of the growth in mobile apps will occur as smartphone penetration slows in the U.S. and other early adopter markets.

Tips For Releasing And Marketing Your New App (Brett Terpstra)
Here are some words of advice for young developers looking to release an app on a budget. Grassroots marketing for indie developers, if you will.

  • Make a good app
  • Contact bloggers (but don't be a pest)
  • Include links (to videos or screenshots)
  • Issue a broader press release (through a low-cost service)
  • Consider a promo once the product has launched

Why The Critics Are Wrong About Mobile Advertising (GigaOM)
The standard argument goes that advertisers won’t invest as heavily in mobile as they do online because mobile ads are simply not as effective. Wrong. The biggest companies in the world are in fact jostling for mobile leadership. And why wouldn’t they, as their audiences continue to shift in the millions to access content on mobile? The one thing mobile is better at than any other medium, is being ubiquitous. When people pop their phones in their pockets, they take advertising with them. Everywhere. So if we need a way to join the dots of channels and screens then mobile, with its versatility and portability, plugged into big demographic data, really could be it. And instead of devices we’re talking demographics, in which advertisers buy audiences. Mobile advertising, based on intuitive devices, moving with people, flexing and adapting to their behavior, will soon start with the customer experience. We just needed the technology to get there. Mobile Web Advertising Measurement Guidelines (IAB via Mobile Marketing Association)
Version 2.0 of the Mobile Web Advertising Measurement Guidelines has been released and it includes a change that requires client-side counting for mobile web ad impressions, which will increase consistency with computer-based ad measurement, make impression counts far more robust and reliable, and may help to reduce mobile discrepancies. While these guidelines follow the general parameters and principles of the Advertising Measurement Impression Guidelines previously issued by IAB (U.S.) for online advertising measurement, and are similar to them in many respects, this document has been authored with a specific focus on the unique attributes of Mobile Web advertising. Thus, while many portions of this document will be similar to the existing IAB Guidelines for online measurement, specific guidance in certain other areas will differ because of this consideration of the applicability to the mobile web environment.

AT&T Still The Worst Mobile Network In The U.S. (Consumer Reports via Technorati)

Consumer Reports just outed the results of their survey for the best and the worst mobile networks in the U.S. The said report focused on voice, data, and overall customer service. According to the survey, AT&T Wireless is the worst wireless carrier in America for the last three years (2009, 2010 and 2011). On the knowledge and customer service level, T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T scored low. Customers appeared to be most concerned by each of those carriers' voice and text service quality. Meanwhile, Verizon Wireless scored the best rank for voice and data service quality and the carrier had a better customer service when it comes to resolving customer problems or issues. Furthermore, smaller carriers Consumer Cellular and Credo wireless fared very, very well on the agency's latest survey. However, for AT&T's consolation the carrier was seen as having the most reliable 4G LTE network.
