Facebook is ignoring the criticism it received for its weird, existential "Chairs are like Facebook" ad with a new image it posted on the company's own Timeline page, announcing "Pools are like Facebook." The image (below) shows a swimming pool with the message in it spelled out in inflatables.
The text accompanying the post says, "Swimming pools are filled with people. Some you know. Some you don’t. And every once in a while you see something that maybe you shouldn’t. That’s why swimming pools are a little like Facebook."
Needless to say, many users have not taken the message's inference about things that "shouldn't" be in pools too seriously. (One comment under the image says "yea, i pee in pools, i also pee in facebook.")
The campaign, by Wieden + Kennedy, is not going away apparently, no matter what people say -- which is perhaps the point:
